The space beneath the Westway on the junction of Portobello Road has been a point of major community contention for at least the past 4 years. Ever since the Westway Trust's proposals to regenerate it were entirely dismissed by the local community. Accusations of racial prejudice and ignorance of local culture followed.
In response to the Grenfell Tower Fire, members of local community groups and campaigns made the most of the space as an ideally situated donations centre. It has been a vital community space of healing and reflection ever since.
Every day 10am - 10pm.
The food market takes place every Friday and Saturday. Saturday is particularly packed with the tourists and visitors of Portobello Market. Friday a little less so.
