THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Carnival conduct

The survivors of Grenfell Tower and the wider community ask all visitors to follow our dignified response to the tragedy to date and to show their solidarity over the weekend in a peaceful and respectful manner. This would be the greatest act of honour to those that are lost. We actively denounce all forms of violence to any individual.

Why we are turning Carnival Green

Carnival is a time of year where all vibrant colours are worn and our aim is that we inspire all Carnival-goers to wear at least one item that is green. We also hope you will come to Carnival with your green creations!

Can you help us turn this year's Carnival GREEN?

We hope you can!

Here is the story of why we're turning this year's Carnival Green for Grenfell....

The Beginning

Green for Grenfell is a community-inspired and community-led campaign to raise awareness of the Grenfell Tower Fire and the community that has been affected.

The campaign was started by local North Kensington Schools in the days after the fire, with children wearing green for Grenfell and releasing green balloons.

Other schools and workplaces across the UK followed and the Green for Grenfell campaign was born.

The Ladbroke Grove community want this year's Notting Hill Carnival to be one of respect and remembrance. The community want people to come to Carnival and know that this is not like any other year.

Notting Hill Carnival 2017

Our community has been hurt for many years and the Grenfell Tower Fire took that pain onto a whole new level.

Now, our healing must begin and it is we - the community of Grenfell Tower, Lancaster West Estate and the wider Ladbroke Grove community - who must and will lead the way in that healing for it to be effective, sustainable and for it to support us fully in the path to true restorative justice.

Please help our Community

The whole world knows that the people of Grenfell Tower have gone through unimaginable pain and suffering in the wake of the Grenfell Tower Fire. The wider Lancaster West Estate and those who live, work and learn in North Kensington have also suffered a great deal.

The surviving residents and bereaved families are dealing with so much right now. They wish for all those coming to Carnival to help their healing, by showing respect and finding time for remembrance for them and their loved ones who have passed.

Resident group Grenfell United have worked closely with their local community to come up with the following requests to help ensure a peaceful, creative and memorable weekend:

1 That people respect the people of Grenfell Tower and Lancaster West Estate by avoiding the area around the estate wherever possible and that people refrain from taking photos of the Tower and memorial shrines close to the Tower.

2 That people hold a 1-minute silence on SUNDAY and MONDAY at 3pm. There will be a 3-minute lead-in time to prepare for the silence when all static soundsystems and moving bands will come to a standstill.

3 That people respect the Silent Zone for Reflection, a yellow zone on Ladbroke Grove, between Ladbroke Crescent and Cambridge Gardens.

4 That everyone coming to Carnival come in GREEN.

Community Support

The following community groups are responsible for working with Grenfell United to take the Green for Grenfell campaign, started by our local children and schools, into Notting Hill Carnival.

With their support and the support of our wider North Kensington community, we will achieve all 4 of our wishes to make this year's Carnival a peaceful and respectful tribute to our loved ones.
